The CONCERTO initiative, launched by the European Commission, is addressing the challenges of creating a more sustainable future for Europe’s energy needs by applying an integrated approach towards Energy Efficiency measures combined with the increased use of Renewable Energy Sources on a local level. Currently, 9 projects and their communities are carrying out demonstration activities.

This year was the first year of CONCERTO Plus, an initiative of the European Commission to support the efforts of the CONCERTO projects, working together to reach set goals. As we are fast approaching the end of the year holiday period there is no better opportunity to take the opportunity to thank you, the CONCERTO family, for your very helpful and valuable support throughout the first year of CONCERTO Plus.

Together, in 2006 we have achieved a tremendous amount to promote the integration of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources to encourage the development of innovative technologies and set the foundations for a more sustainable European energy policy.

In this respect we are delighted to have delivered a number of highly useful tools. The CONCERTO initiative now boasts a bright and meaningful corporate identity which will have an ever lasting impression on all who come across it. The CONCERTO identity is increasingly popularised through the range of dissemination tools developed this year. In 2006 we saw the launch of the CONCERTO Web Site at the occasion of the CONCERTO Opening, the event which has signified the first networking opportunity. CONCERTO Plus also materialised this year a brochure, newsletter, illustrative posters and set the road map for the next phase.

CONCERTO Plus will continue to bring its planned activities to fruition in 2007 with a diverse and attractive number of tools already in the pipeline. The CONCERTO Plus team are working on putting together the next package of tools together to incrementally build the image and spread of information of CONCERTO’s contribution to future energy policy developments.

Already at the beginning of 2007, as explained in further detail on the first inside page, a conference “Sustainable Construction – a good business?” , will be organised during the EU Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels, Belgium. Key stakeholders from various fields of the construction sector will discuss how cities and the construction industry as a whole can be motivated and prepared to re-define their well tested approach towards construction to include environmental and energy objectives as key elements in the overall construction process. The CONCERTO Plus team invites you to register NOW for this event. More information on the event is contained in this newsletter or on the Web at:

w.concertoplus.eu or www.eusew.eu .

As always the CONCERTO Web Site offers you a wealth of valuable updated information on all matters and aspects related to CONCERTO . Please regularly visit www.concertoplus.eu for an overview and the latest updates.

The CONCERTO Plus team would like to wish all readers, the CONCERTO projects, their communities and partners a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. We look forward to working with all of you in 2007 and thank you for your kind collaboration in 2006.
