Cernier, Switzerland
The community of Cernier in the canton of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) is one of four pilot communities within the SOLUTION project.
A remarkable prospective energy policy focuses on energy efficiency measures as well as the integration of renewable energy sources. Cernier is a typical Swiss community, where most municipalities do not have more than 10,000 inhabitants. This makes the community a good role model for Switzerland and the experiences can be transferred to other Swiss cities of similar size as well.
The CONCERTO approach
The community’s aims are very ambitious: within five years, Cernier wants to reach energy independence by using 70% of renewable energy for heating and 90% for electricity – whereas at the moment less than 5% of the used energy comes from renewable sources.
Use of Renewable Energy Sources
• Photovoltaics
• Solar thermal
• Geothermal energy
• Biomass heating
• Wind power
• Hydropower
Low Carbon Technologies
• Insulation
• Heat-cold storage
• District Heating
• Heat Pump
